Always late to the game…

Just started using BlogJet 2.0 – simple and efficient desktop blog management, and it has yet to bork my code in the WYSIWYG mode. We’ll see how long that lasts. I would love to see a hierarchical Categories view, but that may be indicative of XMLRPC, not the app.

Other than that, it’s pretty nice.

One nice touch over the competition that I’ve used (w.Bloggar and Zoundry) is that links use the more valid rel=”external” attribute vs. the non-xhtml target=”_blank” attribute.

Yet in the same breath it uses “fancy quotes” which I despise. Hm. Well anyway, I’ll see if it’s worth the price tag in the long run or if I’m better off without it.

A perfect circle?

Okay… so I’ve been fighting myself to stay positive about Serendipity, but the reality of the matter is that their permalink methods and philosophies just aren’t pretty. Okay, they pretty much suck. Mixed-case URLS just aren’t my thing, man.

Additionally, I’ve been fighting my .htaccess file to redirect all the pages from my WP blog to the new URLs, when in fact would much rather just keep the URL structure I already had because it already kicked ass. Can I help it that I’m a huge fan of RoR style URLs? Now it’s serving different content if I add a trailing slash to a category page… and sending 404 to the HTTP headers. These are pages that are ranking for me. I’m not exactly thrilled.

I should probably just write my own blog software in RoR. In the mean time, I switched to something that’s next-best IMHO. I am using SilverStripe CMS now and it pretty much rocks. It’s really young, so there are bound to be some annoying bugs, but it gives me enough control to make me happy.
